In today’s post, I would like to tell you what scars are and how I, as a physiotherapist,
can help you with their therapy.
A scar results from damage to the dermis and replacement of the defect with connective
tissue. It is not a surface lesion, but a profound one, because there is a cutting in the deep
tissues. It can occur after:
– burn
– surgerie
– Caesarean section
– mastectomy
– tooth extraction
– cuts, lacerations
– acne
What scar therapy is all about?
In scar therapy, my priority is to reduce pain. Equally important to me is improving the
functionality and appearance of the scar. The therapy increases skin mobility and the degree
of elasticity, as well as improves the blood supply to the tissue.
When is the best time to start scar therapy?
It is best to do this even before it has formed. However, this is often not possible, so it is best
to contact a physiotherapist as soon as the scar appears.
